Are you pregnant for first time? Or are you having problem of recurrent miscarriages? Read this detailed article. This article will cover possible reasons for miscarriage, preventive steps not to have miscarriage, myths related to miscarriages. Few simple steps can keep you and your pregnancy safe and healthy.
Pregnancy is one of the most beautiful thing happen to a women in her life. We plan a lot, we dream a lot and we want to enjoy every moment of it as generally it happens to once or twice in our life time. And most beautiful things related to pregnancy is the final gift we get, the baby. Seeing little toes make us forget every pain we had during pregnancy or during delivery. Nine months long wait becomes so sweet at the end that we forget everything tough which we faced during it.
But at times dreams of seeing a little creature in our hand went broken by mishap. Miscarriages are worst thing happen in very good time. Lets know more about it and how to avoid it.
Most common causes of miscarriage

It is said that in 15 percent of known pregnancies, miscarriage occurs. At times there are no defined reasons. It just happened is the only reason we come to know. But few thing we need to know, to prevent miscarriage.

1.     Chromosomal problems

At times body of pregnant women may not produce enough progesterone which is necessary to make supporting lining in placenta. This lining helps in holding and protecting baby. This is not very common so not tested in every case. But in certain cases where miscarriage is found to be repeated or multiple times then test for this is taken.

2.     Intake of excessive caffeine

This is what people think to be most common reason of miscarriage. There are no direct explanation to this but it is found that who take more caffeine have more miscarriages. It is believed that it passes the lining of placenta and cause harm to baby and pregnancy. This may also lead to other abnormalities as it effects developing cells.
Little intake is fine but those who are addicted to high amount are advised to avoid it as much as possible. So avoiding intake of caffeine is first and essential step if you are pregnant or planning for this.

3.     Excessive intake of alcohol, drugs and Cigarette

As caffeine is harmful so are these. Excessive addiction of these things lead to repeated miscarriage. As we all know these are harmful for a normal human too and these are very dangerous for a pregnancy. Those who consume alcohol, are on very high chances of having abnormalities or miscarriage. In some cases confusion is there, if they had some alcohol before knowing about their pregnancy. It is fine. You can go for normal regular test during pregnancy to find if any abnormalities are there. But for sure if you are confirm about your pregnancy once, you must avoid alcohol, cigarette etc.

4.     Uterine Abnormalities and Incompetent Cervices

These are medical conditions which leads to miscarriage. Scar tissues or uterine fibroid leads to miscarriage. Weak cervix or say incompetent cervices also lead to miscarriages. These type of complexities need regular medical care for its treatment. In such cases one may have many miscarriages if original problem is not fixed yet. Even late miscarriages are found in such cases as these cervices may be able to held fetus in but on becoming big and heavy fetus do not get enough support.
These cases are noticed much later when a women undergoes several miscarriages. And only treatment for this is surgery where an additional support can be given to cervices. And in case of uterine septum surgery is required.

5.     Thyroid Problems and Uncontrolled Diabetes

These both are hormone related. Women who are suffering with these problem must take doctors consultation and medicine before planning their pregnancy. Actually due to these environment in uterus remains no favorable for fetus and it becomes hard to survive.

6.     Poly cystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS)

This problem occurs only with those, who do not have regular menstrual cycle and ovulation. This is presence of more male hormone. In such cases when women do not have diabetes history, insulin production is restricted by this problem. And again it causes to not making proper lining for pregnancy.

7.     Bacterial Infections

There are several type of microorganism found in organs of human. There are few microorganism which are harmful and may lead to problem in pregnancy. These bacteria avoid proper lining development inside uterus. Proper treatment can avoid miscarriage caused by these. These may be known to women before pregnancy, in such cases proper treatment should be taken earlier.

8.     Immunologic Disorders

In some rare cases due to some immunologic disorders women body discards fetus or do not allow it to develop. In such cases body rejects own tissue or fertilized egg as it consider it as something from outside which may be harmful to body. This is rare case. Miscarriage happening due to such reason is tough to avoid. Still some antibodies can help in this.

Myths related to miscarriage

Women producing baby since origin, so there are few myths related to pregnancy and miscarriage co exist since then. Few most common are explained here.
Exercises lead to so, staying in bad mood or over stressed cause miscarriage

Most of the women show agreement to this. But this is wrong to think that cautious activity or exercise may lead to miscarriage. In fact light and proper exercise prepare women for labor pain and in maintaining healthy pregnancy. Until your doctor advise you to take bed rest, stay active and do exercise. Keep few points in mind like no over stretching and conditions like where one can slip or can cause harm must be avoided.
Similarly stress or depression cause miscarriage is like another myth. Most of the women have mixed feeling about their pregnancy or other things during pregnancy. This do not cause miscarriage, however this should be told to doctor if women is noticing that this is happening to her more often. Depression during pregnancy must be reported to doctor too. People working under stressful situation should not think it is tough to keep their pregnancy healthy for long. There is no proof of any relation between stress and pregnancy. Other thing due to stress like intake of alcohol, cigarette or any harmful drug, these activities may lead to miscarriage.
Symptoms of miscarriage

Symptoms of miscarriage are severe pain and bleeding. However it is normal to have little bleeding during first trimester. Blood clots and severe pain are main symptoms of miscarriage. At times, this may not be sudden miscarriage, it may be long and painful. In any case you must consult your healthcare provider and must told everything happening to you and inside you. In some cases, treatment after miscarriage is also required.
In any case, miscarriage is disappointing and upsetting so one must stay brave and allow it to pass away. In some cases mixture of feeling like guilty, pain, grief, shock may come but one must understand that to move on is only solution.
Different kind of miscarriages

Miscarriages can be classified according to the way of miscarriage happen and to what extent. Five kinds of miscarriage are like, threatened miscarriage where bleeding happened with cramps but cervix is still closed. Here some chances are there that pregnancy may continue if conditions supported but in many cases this results in to miscarriage only.
Inevitable miscarriage, where bleeding happened and cervix also opened. Miscarriage is for sure. Another kind is incomplete abortion where some of the tissue may come out while some stayed connected inside.
In case of complete miscarriage there is no much requirement of treatment as all tissue come out. And last kind of miscarriage is missed abortion where, pregnancy ended still tissue remain inside. There proper treatment is required to take out those tissues. However human body is expected to leave those dead tissues but in some cases it do not come out.
How to reduce chance of miscarriage

Natural ways
Avoid caffeine, and anything which can lead to miscarriage. Make your body and organs strong before and during pregnancy.
One must take care of proper diet. Those who are planning must have nutrient dense fertility diet. Diet having nutrients which may help in taking care of your egg, helping in building lining of placenta. And diet which creates healthy nutrient store for fetus.
One should also take eatable which help in producing hormonal balance.
Important steps to take before pregnancy

One must take omega 3 and multivitamin before planning pregnancy. B6, B12 and folic acid must be taken to help to help you during your pregnancy. One can also consider fertility or abdominal massage.
If you are facing recurrent miscarriages.

If one is facing it multiple times, then it is important to know the exact reason. Bed rest is also suggested in such cases. Proper diet with bed rest minimize chances of miscarriage.
In case, reason for recurrent miscarriage is from hormonal imbalance, uterine or cervix related problem or immunological problem, then suggested steps like test of progesterone level before pregnancy can help you in determining right time to go for pregnancy.
Even in case of immune related problems systematic enzyme therapy should be taken before planning pregnancy.
When is this right time to try again

If miscarriage happened first time and there is no major reason seemed to caused it, then one can go for planning pregnancy.
One must consult doctor to know possible reasons for this. If any problem is diagnosed where treatment is needed then proper treatment should be taken before planning next pregnancy. Otherwise as soon as one's body start normal cycle, one can feel ready to go for planning pregnancy again. If this problem is recurring, proper reasons and treatment accordingly is must. One must consider suggestion from health care provider to when to plan again.
Stay brave and live strong

Life is good to everyone. Up and down were always there and will always be there. We must learn to go with it whatever is coming in our way. Miscarriage is disappointing but one must go on and should prepare for beautiful time.
Even if you have tried many things and these do not seem to be working, consult some other doctor. If something big or inability to produce baby is reported to you, there is no need to be discouraged. You are a lovely person and have all right to love. You can decide to serve and love orphan babies or can go for adopting a baby. If you are a good human, you will be able to love that little one equal love as you would have given to your own biological offspring.

Care for your "Teeth"

Care for you "TEETH"

Your teeth are one of your most winning features. Here are a few suggestions on how to keep them that way.
Smile: How to take care of your teeth
Teeth are not only functional; they are an important part of your appearance. While the basic function of teeth is to break down food so it's ready for digestion, there's no
denying clean teeth and fresh breath can make a good impression.
It doesn't take much to keep your teeth clean and healthy, but it does take more than a quick swish of a brush. If you think you don't have time to floss every day, or see your
dentist once or twice a year, you can pretty much expect not only an unwelcome amount of decay, but that your teeth and gums will age much faster than you may like.

Don't forget to floss

You know you should floss, but is it really that important? Well, yes.
"Brushing your teeth only gets rid of the food and plaque on your teeth, not between your teeth, which is the job of floss," says
Dr Derek Lewis from the Australian Dental Association. "When this plaque builds up, it's hard to see as it's wedged between the teeth so you often don't know it's there until it's caused major damage."
Plaque is a sticky film of bacteria that forms continually on teeth and gums. When you eat something, the bacteria use the sugars from food and drinks to multiply. After you eat, the bacteria release an acid that attacks tooth enamel. If you don't get rid of the plaque with brushing and flossing, this can cause the enamel to weaken, eventually causing tooth decay.
Plaque also produces substances that irritate the gums, making them red, tender or bleed easily. After a while, gums may pull away from the teeth and start making little pockets of bacteria and pus. If the gums are not treated, teeth may become loose or have to be removed. The gums can also start to recede, which is a very obvious sign of ageing.
Dr Lewis says the best way to prevent tooth decay and gum disease is by:
  • Eating a healthy diet that is low in sugar
  • Keeping acidic food and drinks, such as soft drinks, juice and sports drinks, to a minimum
  • Drinking lots of fluoridated water
  • Brushing your teeth twice a day, making sure you use a soft-bristled brush and a toothpaste containing fluoride.
  • Cleaning between the teeth once a day with floss or interdental cleaners (a small brush used for cleaning between teeth).
  • Getting regular check-ups every 6-12 months.
"Seeing a dentist regularly is important, particularly as there are new materials available that can repair a tooth with decay without doing a filling," Dr Lewis says.
"There are now creams and applications available that can remineralise the tooth if the decay is caught soon enough, preventing the need for fillings".
Also available are dental sealants, which are a plastic coating that can be applied to the chewing surfaces of the back molars where decay often starts. This sealant protects your teeth. "It's an effective plaque prevention technique," Dr Lewis says.

Sensitivity

Teeth sensitivity to hot, cold and sweet foods is a common problem with people over the age of 40. Dr Ben Wilcox sheds light on this irritating condition.
"Teeth sensitivity is a short electric shock like pain that originates where the gum meets the tooth," Dr Wilcox says."Hot, cold and sweet foods cause fluid movement in the tubules [nerve channels] exposed on the gum margin of the tooth that have a connection with the tooth nerve.
"This is more pronounced as we get older because our gums have a tendency to recede.
"To treat teeth sensitivity, chemical and physical barriers are used to block the tubules and stop the connection to the nerve being made."

Kids teeth

If you are getting frustrated by nagging your kids every morning and night to brush their teeth properly, take heart: in the long run it will be worth it. A child's primary teeth, sometimes called "baby teeth", are just as important as permanent adult teeth, and the health of their pearly whites now will affect their appearance in the future.
Primary teeth typically begin to appear about six months of age. These teeth not only help children chew their food but to speak. They also hold space in the jaws for the permanent teeth growing under the gums.
As soon as teeth appear in the mouth, they can begin to decay - so it is important you brush them gently with a child's-size toothbrush and water, or rub them with a face cloth straight away.
From 18 months, children can start to use half a pea-sized amount of children's fluoride toothpaste under parental supervision. From the age of five, they can use a smear of adult toothpaste.
Dr Kareen Mekertichian, vice-president of the Australian and New Zealand Society of Paediatric Dentistry, says the most worrying trend in modern dentistry is the poor dental health in preschoolers.
This is why the experts recommend parents visit a dentist close to an infant's first birthday so they can discuss the proper way to look after their child's teeth, examine for any dental abnormalities that may cause problems in the future, and discuss potential risks.
Dr Mekertichian says a child can be well looked after by a family dentist; a paediatric dentist is unnecessary in low-risk cases.
As with adults, the way to keep kids' teeth healthy is to have a healthy diet, drink lots of fluoridated water, floss regularly and brush twice a day with a fluoride toothpaste.
But, like everything, moderation is crucial when it comes to toothpaste. "Fluoride works best when applied topically," Dr Mekertichian says. "Kids can ingest too much fluoride if they eat toothpaste, causing a condition known as fluorosis which is why it's important to spit out toothpaste."
In its mildest form, fluorosis appears as tiny white streaks or specks on the teeth. In its severest - a condition also called mottling of dental enamel - it is characterised by black and brown stains, as well as cracking and pitting of the teeth.

How do I brush my teeth?

  •  Place your brush at a 45-degree angle against the gums and brush back and forth gently in short (tooth-wide) strokes.
  • Brush the outer, inner and chewing surfaces of the teeth.
  • Brush your tongue to remove bacteria and freshen your breath.
  • Proper brushing should take at least two minutes.
  • Replace your brush about every three months, and after you have been sick to prevent reinfection.

Care for your "Eyes"

Eyes are very important to us, so we have to be careful to look after them. They show us our world and they show others how we are feeling. When we talk to other people, we notice what their eyes are saying as well as what they are saying with their mouths.
Can you think of times when you can tell by someone's eyes whether they are happy smiley face or sad sad face or angry angry face?
eyesSome people look away when they are bored.
Some people do not look at the other person's eyes when they talk, because in some cultures it is thought to be rude.
What do you do with your eyes when you are listening to someone?
The main job that eyes do for us is to see. Here are a couple of words you might want to know to understand about eyes.
  • 'Sight' means being able to see (I can see something out there).
  • 'Vision' means being able to understand what you are seeing (I know what it is - it is a tree).

Some ways to look after your eyes

Because eyes are so precious, we need to really take care of them.
  • Take care to protect your eyes when you are playing, especially in sports, eg. wear goggles for snow skiing, helmets and guards for cricket and baseball.
  • Turn on lights when it's getting dark (especially if you're reading).
  • Wear sunglasses and hats on bright days.
  • Tell your parent if your eyes are sore.
  • Tell your teacher if you can't see clearly the blackboard/whiteboard or your book clearly.
  • Tell your teacher if the text is not clear.
  • Keep sunscreen away from your eyes - it really stings if it runs into your eyes.
  • Wear glasses if you need them.
  • Don't wear other people's glasses.
  • Your eyes get sore if you watch a computer or TV screen for too long, so do lots of different things in your spare time (you need exercise, and so do your eyes).
  • Looking directly at the sun (or any really bright light, including lightning) can damage your eyes.
  • Rubbing your eye if you get something in it can hurt your eye, so ask an adult to help you or wash your eyes with water until it feels better.
  • Use the correct drops/medication for your eyes if you need them, and do not use any that someone else has used.

Exercise your eyes!

Reading, writing, using a computer, watching TV or staring at a small screen on a video game can all make your eyes feel dry and tired.
Some doctors think that too much close work can even lead to short sightedness (myopia  [say: my-oh-peea]), which means that you can only see things clearly when you are up close to them.
You can help your eyes by exercising them. Here are a few things you can try.
  • Every 20 minutes let your eyes take a break.
  • Look away from the page or screen and slowly blink your eyes 10 times.
  • Close your eyes and slowly roll your eyeballs round clockwise 2 times then 2 times anti clockwise.
  • Look to the left then to the right 2 times with your eyes closed then do the same looking up and down. Move your eyes slowly.
  • Look at something further away and focus on it while you count to 10 then look at the screen or page while you count to 10. Do this 5 times.
The rest of your body needs a break too. Close your eyes and take 10 slow deep breaths holding the air in for 10 before breathing out. Stand up and move around a bit. Roll your shoulders, bend sideways and slowly roll your head around.
If you have problems seeing clearly your doctor or optometrist (eye doctor) may give you some other exercises which may help.

Sunglasses and hats

  • All children (and adults) should wear sunglasses if they are going to be in bright sun light (babies usually don't wear sunglasses - they might poke the sunglasses in their eyes!)
  • Babies should be sheltered from the sun by a hat, shade umbrella or the shade of a tree or roof.
  • It is important that everyone's eyes are protected from sun damage. Sunglasses should be up to Australian standards to protect eyes from the sun. There will be a sticker telling you this on the glasses. Wearing non-approved glasses could cause problems with your eyes.
  • Hats that shade the eyes are important.

Safety for other people

Here are some ways to help make sure you don't hurt anyone else's eyes.
Never
  • eyesthrow sand, dirt or small things at others
  • run with pointy things like pencils or scissors in your hands
  • fire anything at others, eg. Spud gun, peashooter, paper planes, etc.
  • spray insects or use any other kind of spray without warning others.
Can you think of other things that might hurt someone's eyes?
Injuries can easily happen, so you have to really think about what you are doing. Wouldn't it be awful if someone's eyes were hurt and it was your fault?

Could you have a problem?

What if your eyes don't work properly or don't see as well as they should?
Lots of people have problems with their eyes. Sometimes you don't even know you have a problem at first because you don't know that everyone else can see things differently.
Some people who have problems with their eyes say "I can see what they are doing, but I can't see who is doing it". You can miss a lot of things if you can't see well.
Here are some things that might tell you that you are not seeing as well as you could:
  • You can't see the board.
  • Writing looks blurry.
  • Your eyes hurt or feel tired.
  • Your eyes feel hot, or they sting or twitch.
  • You get headaches when you've been reading or writing for a while.
  • It's hard to copy from the board.
  • You can't tell the difference between some colours.
  • You keep losing your place when reading or copying.
  • You need your book close up to your eyes to be able to read it.
  • When you look up from your work everything looks blurred or misty.
What to do
If you are worried or not sure if you have a problem with your eyes, tell your mum or your dad or a teacher.

What happens next?

Your parents will probably arrange for you to have your eyes tested. This does not hurt, and it helps to find out if there is anything wrong. You may need to see a special eye doctor or an optician (say op-tish-an) for this.
Here are some of the things that an eye doctor or optician may suggest if your eyes need help:
  • doing special eye exercises.
  • wearing glasses for a short time.
  • wearing glasses for a long time.
  • wearing contact lenses. These can be great and you can get them in different colours, but they take some getting used to and you may have to keep getting new ones as you grow. It's better to wait until you're older, then they'll last for a longer time (they're pretty expensive too and they don't give your eyes as much protection from injury as glasses.) You can also get disposable contact lenses when you're grown up if you prefer not to wear glasses sometimes, eg when you are playing sport or dancing.
